PVAHA Player Development

2025 PVAHA Boys Player Development Camp

PVAHA will conduct its Player Development Camp, the first step in earning a National Camp selection, on March 21–23, 2025 at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Virginia. Players born in 2011, 2010, 2009, and 2008 are eligible to tryout.

PVAHA PDC Consists of Two Phases:

Phase One – Friday Night:

Preliminary tryout for Main Camp — required for:

  • All players registered on teams outside of PVAHA
  • Tier II players who have been nominated by hockey director

Phase Two - Main Camp (Saturday and Sunday):

  • Includes players selected from Phase One and current PVAHA Tier-I players
  • 40-player maximum for each birth year
  • Number of Phase One players selected for Main Camp depends on number of PVAHA Tier-I players registered directly for Main Camp

REGISTRATION:

Nomination and Registration will begin February 1, 2025.

  • Players rostered on Tier I teams inside the Affiliate must register for Main Camp by February 18, 2025.  You will receive an email invitation to register from your hockey directors.
  • Tier II Players nominated by their hockey directors must register for Phase One by MARCH 5, 2025. A registration link will be sent to Tier-II players who have been nominated by their hockey directors. You will receive an additional registration link if you advance to Phase Two.
  • All other players (Tier I outside the Affiliate, Prep School, etc.) rostered on teams outside the Affiliate must contact PVAHA to request a registration link and must register for Phase One by MARCH 5, 2024.  All such interested players should email PVAHA at playerdevelopment@pvaha.net beginning February 1st to request a registration link.  Please provide the name of your current team and contact information for your current coach.  You will receive an additional registration link if you advance to Phase Two.
  • REGISTRATION DEADLINES ARE FIRM.  THERE IS NO REGISTRATION AVAILABLE AT THE EVENT — IF YOU DO NOT TIMELY REGISTER BY THE ABOVE DEADLINES YOU CANNOT PARTICIPATE. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE. Advanced registration is required because we need time to make sure all participants are properly registered in the USA Hockey portal, which must be completed prior to the start of camp, thus we cannot make exceptions for players who do not register on time.

PLEASE NOTE AND ABIDE BY ALL REGISTRATION DEADLINES.  We do not want to turn players away but have no choice if you are not properly registered.

Please note the following:

  • ALL PLAYERS wishing to be considered for advancement to the SE District PDC MUST participate in PVAHA’s PDC.
  • Tier I and Prep School players playing outside the Affiliate must attend Phase One and be selected to Main Camp.
  • PVAHA no longer issues “byes” to SE District Camp, regardless of circumstances. Please plan ahead if you play outside the Affiliate.
  • If you made the USA Hockey National Camp last year, USA Hockey will invite you directly to the SE District Camp and you need not participate in the PVAHA PDC. This is a USA Hockey function and is not coordinated through PVAHA. The Select 14 Camp does not qualify for an automatic invitation to the SE District Camp.
  • Phase One (Friday Night) consists of cross-ice 3-v-3 games (all birth years) to ensure maximum and equal ice time for all participating players.
  • Requests to be excused from PVAHA PDC in favor of other hockey events will not be considered.
  • All tryout games will be supervised by a certified on-ice official
  • Players participating in Phase Two will receive PVAHA branded apparel

EVALUATION AND SELECTION:

Players participating in PVAHA PDC will be evaluated by representatives from USA Hockey, Junior, and NCAA coaches, in addition to local coach evaluators.

  • Main Camp consists of 2 full-ice scrimmages for each birth year
  • Main Camp Goalies participate in a goalie-only session as part of their evaluation (shooters are not evaluated during this session)
  • The combination of outside and local coaches is designed to provide balance to the evaluation process by including a local player’s body of work in the evaluation process.
  • Players will be ranked for each session by the evaluation team.  The top-ranked players on aggregate will advance to the Southeast District PDC.  The number of players advancing to the SE District PDC varies by birthyear.

COST:

There is no cost for Phase One (Friday Night)

Phase Two (Main Camp) cost is $150. Payment is due at registration.

What does my registration fee cover?

  • Certified officials officiate all PDC games
