Background Screening

Safe Sport Program / Background Screening

USA Hockey implemented the United States Olympic Committee’s SafeSport Program at the start of the 2013/14 Season, This program is intended to protect participants from physical abuse, sexual abuse and other types of abuse and misconduct.

PVAHA requires its member Local Association Programs and all  member coaches, volunteers and employees to comply with the SafeSport Program standards. The USA Hockey SafeSport Handbook is available by clicking USAH Safe Sport Handbook on the right.

SafeSport questions may be directed to PVAHA’s SafeSport Program coordinator, Keith Williams

Background screening is an important element of the SafeSport Program. As stated in greater detail in the USA Hockey Safesport Handbook each coach, volunteer or employee who has regular, routine or frequent access to youth participants must have a background screening completed.  A background screen is valid for 2 years, and all previously screened individuals must be rescreened every 2 years. To complete your background screening application click the Screening Application Tab to the left.

PVAHA INSTRUCTIONS FOR BACKGROUND SCREENING

New Coaches and volunteers must complete their background screen prior to participating in team/club activities.  If you completed a background screen during the 2016/17 season you do not need to be screened for the 2017/18 season.  If your last background screen was before the 2016/17 season you must be rescreened for the 2017/18 season.

If you coach or volunteer for more than 1 organization you may designate multiple PVAHA associations as you fill out your screening application.
